Seek the Lord – Today!

Isaiah 55:6-9

What it means to - seek the Lord

1. Calling upon Him

Isaiah 55:6
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

2. Forsaking wicked ways and thoughts

Isaiah 55:7
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

3. Stay away from astrology etc – seek God alone

Isaiah 8:19
When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God?

4. Turn to God for deliverance from his anger

Isaiah 9:12-13
Arameans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth. Yet for all this, his (God’s) anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised. But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the Lord Almighty.

5. Ask God for his guidance

Isaiah 31:1
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.

Summary:

To call on Him
To forsake ways and thoughts that dishonour Him
To consult Him alone instead of occult counterfeits
To turn to God for rescue
To ask for His guidance rather than human strength and wisdom

Why should we want - to seek the Lord

1.Our ways and thoughts verses God’s

Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

2. To find pardon not punishment

Isaiah 55:7
Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

2. To find pardon not punishment

Micah 7:18
Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives …You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

3. The nearness of God in this moment

Isaiah 55:6
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
